Etiquette Practices We All Should Model
As a mom raising 5 daughters in a time of Covid-19, it is more important than ever that we as parents stay positive. Staying positive in ways that teach our children proper image and etiquette behaviors. This include mannerism. personality and behaviors.
In 2014 I received my Certification as a Certified Image & Etiquette Teacher and Trainer for Teens and Adults. Unfortunately by that time, my 5 daughters were at the age to be living out of the house on their own. So this information will apply to etiquette practices we all should model.
I am amazed how much our daily lives coincides with our attitudes and the behaviors of others. Take a moment to think about how all of our lives intertwined with each another. It all comes back to how we treat our fellow servant (the other person), our neighbors, and how they treat us.
Let’s be real can we? If you asked 100 people this question, most of their answers would be consistent “Yes”! So, let me ask you, “Do you want to live a happy life? I think if you asked most people in your circle of friends and acquaintances, they would have the same response. So, we all want the same thing, but have a difficult time knowing how to get it. When we mistreat others (our sisters, brothers, friends, neighbors and acquaintances), we are not living out our true selves. This is why we need Etiquette.
Etiquette is “Acceptable behaviors that is gracious and polite socially, professionally and in family situations”. When it comes to our behavior, etiquette defines it as “Who we are”. It is how we treat other people. It is not how other people treat us”. We exhibit etiquette when we drive our cars on the highway, we exhibit etiquette when we visit a restaurant. Yes, it is how we sit at the table, and interacts with other guests at the table.
My first etiquette teaching was on “The proper way to answer and talk on the telephone”. You would not normally think that we would need to teach this skill, but we do. I was amazed of how people answered the phone, and wondered why the person on the other end of the line quickly ended the call, and did not call back again. People learn more about our behavior when we are on the telephone than when we are face to face. We have become immuned to bad telephone etiquette practices.
When taking my Certification Course, we defined Etiquette as “How our behavior affect others and how proper etiquette can put others at ease” Think about that for a moment. It told me that my behavior can make other people feel comfortable or uncomfortable in their presence. So, I can decide which behavior I portray. We make that decision every time we are around other people. Yes, that’s correct. We all have that power to put others at ease. So why not make people feel at ease when we are in their presence?
During this Covid 19 Pandemic, and social distancing 24/7, we all spend most of our time at home, indoors with our immediate family. This has been the most difficult time for most of us but, the Etiquette rule still apply. In fact, it applies more in the home than it does outside the home because that is where we began learning how to treat one another. When we respect those living with us in our homes, it will carry over automatically when we are socially connected.
Take a moment and ask yourself, what type of person would I prefer to be around. One that is popular, has status in the community, but their attitude and mannerism is rude and condescending. On the other hand. You have a person that is involved in making a difference in the community, enjoys talking with you about how to improve community issues, and cares about the needs of others. Which behavior are you attracted to?
-
Parents, the earlier we start teaching our children proper etiquette skills are the better.
-
Speak kindly of others, or keep your thoughts to yourself.
-
Arrive on time or early for a meeting or Appointment.
-
Don’t interrupt others when they are speaking.
-
When entering a food line with someone, allow them to go first.
-
Say “Thank You” for a good deed that someone has done for you.

How to Become what you Aspire in 3 Easy Steps
Have you often thought about what life would be like for you if you were a Spokes Model? When you thought about it, you decided that maybe, just maybe, you did not actually want to be a Spokes Model, but maybe you wanted to act look like one. Understanding the role of a Spokes Model is the first step in truly knowing if you would like to become one.
So, let’s look at the pros and cons to becoming a Spokes Model. A Spokes Model is pretty much what it says, it is a person who speaks on behalf of someone else. In many instances, they are representing and speaking on behalf of a company. The company hires you, the Spokes Model. In many descriptions a Spokes Model is also referred to as Spoken Person.
Companies hire a Spokes Model to represent their company to say good things about a product or service. The company allows this person to be the front line, or guiding force in convincing the consumer that the product or service the company represents is exactly what they need.
Spokes Models are often very well spoken, and in most instances they look physically healthy. They present themselves as one who have tried the product or service, and is happy to stand in between the Company and the Consumer as a “I tried it, You buy it” mentality. And because of their convincing demeanor, people will trust them to buy whatever they are selling. The cons to this method is that, many times the Spokes Model will convince others to purchase products when they have never tried the product themselves. Spokes Models sees it as a job, and not a conviction of truth. Many Spokes Models are honest people and will soon move out of that role because of their integrity.
So, wanting to look and act like a Spokes Model is a good thing. It allows you to show off your presentation skills, dress neatly and look good. Start improving your speaking vocabulary immediately by enrolling in a Speaking course. Remember, Spokes Models are poised, articulate and versatile. So the next thing you want to do is improve your image and etiquette skills. You may want to enroll in a language course to impress people from other countries. Lastly, if you are not already a Professional, start acting like one. Watch and see how quickly people will see you are a Spokes Model.
Step 1. Improve your vocabulary and speaking skills.
Step 2. Rev up your Image and Etiquette Skills
Step 3. Act like a Professional Right Now!

How to Make this a Better World for You?
Everyone want this World to be better, don’t you? I will share with you how you can make that happen for you. Ask yourself? What can I do to make this world a better place. Use the list below to complete the following statements.
Wouldn’t This Old World Be Better If…..”People we meet would say, I know something good about you, and treated us just that way”?
Think deeply for just a moments, then ask yourself, Life would be better for me if…
-
If I had a better relationship with my children.
-
If I had a better relationship with my mother.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Sister.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Boss
-
If I had a better relationship with my Dad.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Brother.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Co worker.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Boss
-
If I had a better relationship with my Cousin.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Pastor.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Neighbor.
-
If I had a better relationship with Church Members
-
If I had a better relationship with my mother in-law.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Parents.
-
If I had a better relationship with my Ex-Husband.
Notice that I did not say you needed to have a perfect relationship with people. I did say maybe you could have a “better” relationship.
Just list one person listed above that you would like to “improve your relationship” with. This is not hard to do. Building relationships is what improving the world is all about, one person at a time, and it all begins with Us! It is a great feeling to know that we all play an important role in making this world a better place to live. Let’s not focus on all the other stuff, such as why the relationship is distance, or what you think that person did to you that was unkind. Just focus on reaching out to think and saying, “Hi, I am just following up to see how you are doing”. Don’t be surprise if that person says to you, “I was just thinking about you the other day”. Well, that is the open door for you to reach out and invite them to coffee, tea, lunch, dinner, party, etc. Keep a daily journal on how that relationship develops.
People we know and care about needs us in their lives just as much as we need them in ours. So, that is why I am suggesting that you be the bigger person and reach out to them. Most of the time, depending on your ability to keep it on the positive, people will not even bring up any negative past if you don’t. They are just so happy that you reached out to them. You become their Guardian Angel. Don’t be alarmed if you reach out, and that person is not receptive to you. That’s Okay! Just go back to your list, and see if you can improve on another relationship.
The key to this strategy is that when we built those relationships with people in a positive way, it improves our own lives in ways that we had no idea. Our lives are more fulfilled when we share them with those special people in past, present and future acquaintances. This may be a challenging task for you, and a bit uncomfortable, but if you really want to mend that 5, 10, 15 or maybe even 20 year relationship, you will need to put your pride aside, and make the first move.

The Pageant the Encourages Success in “Every Girl”
In 2001, my daughter came home and said, “Mom, I want to compete in this beauty Pageant. It really never dawn on me that she was serious about competing. So, I reluctantly gave her the money she needed to register, and she went away excited. Month’s later, she came back to me and asked it I would take her out shopping for a dress and shoes. She was excited about competing, as she had just been voted captain of the Varsity Cheerleader’s Team, and her self esteem was over the roof. My husband and I agreed to take her shopping for what she needed to compete in the pageant. The pageant was in another city, so on that Friday, prior to the day of the pageant, we drove our daughter to the venue, and checked into a hotel. We toured the hotel the night before, and made her familiar with the conference Room where the main event would be held.
The next day, there were so many girls checking into the hotel with their parents. To our amazement, their were 289 girls signed up to compete in the pageant. There were girls from all around the state, and all of them looked as potential winners for the state queen title. After about 8 hours of competitions, our daughter was crowned the State Queen. Our daughter’s esteem went over the roof. Her comment was, Mom, “I wish every girl here tonight felt as excited as I feel”.
The next day at breakfast, we talked and made the decision to begin the plans for our own pageant system, and it would be all about Success in every girls feeling beautiful, and loved. We have kept that as our focus as of today. Each year as our planning team prepares for the pageant, the guidelines remain consistent, Give every girl the same about of time and attention to exhibit her confidence and potential as Queen. Our pageant would continue to focus on image building, confidence, leadership, personal development, etiquette, speaking and dressing for success. Our overall mission is to change the image of beauty pageants around the world by focusing on the inner beauty and potential for SUCCESS in EVERY girl who competes.
I immediately began planning my very own pageant that would eliminate these barriers of girls feeling lack of confidence. Our pageant would be affordable, and provide online training sessions to prepare delegates for their Success experience. It is my desire that every girl has the opportunity to become SUCCESSFUL through participation in our Pageant system. Click her to Sign up today!
